Toxic by all routes of exposure. Highly lung and eye irritant due to ammonia gas evolved, pungent odour. Open and use in fume cupboard. Use eye and skin protection. Ammonia should not be mixed with halogens (F, Cl, Br,I) , it may explode.
When mixed with solid iodine, a highly unstable nitrogen triiodide complex (touch powder) is formed. The deliberate making of 'touch powder' is a banned activity.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer) with flushing to make solution pH: 8-10.
