Toxic by all routes of exposure. Highly lung and eye irritant due to ammonia gas evolved; highly skin irritant; corrosive. Open and use in fume cupboard. Use eye and skin protection. Ammonia should not be mixed with halogens (F, Cl, Br,I) , it may explode. When mixed with solid iodine, a highly unstable nitrogen triiodide complex (touch powder) is formed. The deliberate making of 'touch powder' is a banned activity.
Dilute ammonia solutions are commonly used in cleaning preparations (e.g. cloudy ammonia), are irritant to the lungs but only slightly toxic.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer) with flushing to make solution pH: 8-10.
