Toxic by all routes of exposure. Extremely flammable; forms dense vapour which can flow along bench, floor, etc. to a point of ignition, resulting in a violent explosion and fire; low toxicity; moderate skin irritant.

BANNED CHEMICAL IN DET SCHOOLS.

Forms diethyl peroxide on standing in air and light; the peroxide is less volatile than the ether, and remains as an explosive residue on evaporation of the solvent.
