These indicators are organic dyes and are normally used in minute quantities.
They do not represent any particular toxicity hazard except if the solids are ingested.
Phenolphthalein is used medicinally as a strong laxative.
The major risk is usually the solvent used to dissolve the indicator, this is often ethanol.
