Slightly toxic if ingested.
Can be purchased from Q-Stores or prepared by dissolving 173 g sodium citrate and 100 g anhydrous sodium carbonate in 800 mL water and filter. Dissolve 17.3g copper sulfate in 100 mL water and add to the filtered solution. Make up to 1 litre with water.
Used to test for simple sugars, orange-red colour indicates presence of simple sugar.
Use this reagent as a safer alternative to Fehling’s solution for testing the presence of reducing sugars.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer).
