I 1744
7726-95-6
Toxic by all routes of exposure. Irritant vapour; skin irritant; corrosive.
Use in a fume cupboard if practicable, otherwise use small quantities in a well-ventilated area. Use eye and skin protection when solutions are being prepared. Store in refrigerator (not freezer).
Can be prepared by opening a bromine ampoule (1 mL) under water (200 mL), in a fume cupboard. The solution does not have a very long shelf life unless kept cool (days). Typically, student use should be limited to 2 mL of 0.1 M per activity, dropper bottles provide good control on access. Used to test for unsaturated hydrocarbons.

Students must use eye protection.
