Slightly toxic if ingested and by skin contact. Used in water supplies to control algae.
Use eye protection where splashes can occur.
The white hemihydrate salt, formed by heating the blue pentahydrate at 150?C, is useful in testing for water and as a desiccant.

Adding water to the white anhydrous solid is very exothermic.
Used in electrochemical cells, to test for cations, crystallization experiments, testing for water and in metal displacement reactions.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer) within limits specified in Appendix E.
