White solid when pure.
Poorly soluble in water. Unless tightly stoppered it is oxidised by air to the blue-green basic cupric chloride. Harmful if swallowed or inhaled.
Irritant to skin, eyes, mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract.
Copper may cause long term health effects. Use eye and skin protection when splashes are possible. Handle solid in fume cupboard.
