Cyanoacrylates are generally colourless liquids, which polymerise due to moisture. They solidify instantly in contact with water.
Cyanoacrylates are extremely strong, fast setting general-purpose adhesives.
They have an irritating pungent odour, cause burns when in contact with the skin and eyes. The risk to the eyes is very significant.
These adhesives are generally available in small tubes (<10 mL), due to the risk of serious injury by accidental application to the skin and eyes. In DET schools cyanoacrylates should not be used by students Years K-10.
Commercial quantities of these adhesives must not be purchased for use in DET schools.
Disposal: Puncture container/tube, place into water. When solid (polymerisation complete), place in garbage (to landfill).
