May be an irritant to eyes and skin. Butyl rubber gloves are better than most gloves for resisting penetration by DMSO. Avoid breathing vapour and contact with eyes. The pure compound has little odour, but it is usually contaminated with a trace of dimethylsulfide, which gives it a ?tomcat? odour. Use in fume cupboard if practicable, otherwise use small quantities in a well-ventilated area. Use eye and skin protection when splashes are possible. 23
