Fluorides are generally highly toxic substances.
Where the action of halides is being studied, use chlorides, bromides or iodides. Metal fluorides react with acids to form hydrofluoric acid.Note: Hydrofluoric acid is a banned chemical in DET schools.
Fluorides if heated to decomposition release fluorine gas, which is just as toxic as chlorine. Any exposure to fluorine requires urgent medical attention.

Disposal: Fluoride solutions (not containing heavy metals) may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer). Ensure the solution pH is 8-10.

See hydrofluoric acid and Appendix E.
