Inert gas.
Use in a well-ventilated atmosphere. In large concentrations can act as an asphyxiating gas. Often used in party balloons and to demonstrate the change in pitch of the voice, due to the increased velocity of sound in helium. Inhaling helium may be dangerous to asthmatics. Staff must be aware of risks associated with compressed gases, the cylinder must be secured to protect the valve.

See Section 3.3.4.2 (j).
