Hazardous Chemical
II 1823
1310-73-2
Extremely toxic if ingested. Highly corrosive to skin and eyes; releases heat when dissolved in water.
Use eye and skin protection when splashes can occur. More dangerous to eyes than acid (acid denatures water-soluble proteins, forming a slightly protective film; alkali does not). Hygroscopic, absorbs water from the air. Used in experiments for reactions of oxides of period 3 elements.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer), after making the solution pH: 8-10.
Note: May be used by students Years 7-10, under close supervision, for soap and paper making activities ONLY.
