Reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide and liberates heat, sometimes ejecting hot particles and steam. Use eye and skin protection when splashes can occur. Store in a tightly sealed container to exclude moisture; old samples may not react with water since they have already been converted to calcium hydroxide. Used in pit toilets to dehydrate (reduce water content). Disposal: Solid waste of this chemical may be disposed of in the garbage (to landfill). Q-Stores 14
