Slightly toxic if ingested; skin irritant.
Use eye and skin protection where splashes can occur. Boiling with dilute acid releases extremely toxic hydrogen cyanide gas; heating with concentrated sulfuric acid yields highly toxic carbon monoxide gas. Direct heating of the solid yields highly toxic cyanogen gas.
Forms explosive mixtures with nitrite salts. May explode with concentrated ammonia solution. Forms good crystals and used in redox experiments.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer).
