Reacts violently with strong oxidising agents. Reaction with potassium permanganate (spontaneous) is safe provided it is carried out in small quantities (<5 g) and precautions are taken.
Useful as a lubricant for boring holes in corks and rubber bungs.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer).
