Toxic by ingestion or skin contact.
Use eye and skin protection when splashes can occur. Reacts with moisture to form toxic hydrogen chloride gas; reacts violently with water to release heat and toxic hydrogen chloride gas. It is not recommended that aluminium chloride be used in a comparison of the chlorides of the elements of the third period (due to release of HCl). Normally used as aqueous solution (<5%) to study behaviour of aluminium and chloride ions.

Disposal: Waste solutions of this chemical may be disposed of down the sink (to sewer).
