Toxic by all routes of exposure. Highly flammable; highly toxic vapour.
Causes permanent blindness when ingested. Typically, student use should be limited to 5 mL of 0.1 M per activity per group/person.
Use in a fume cupboard if practicable; otherwise use small quantities (<50 mL or g) in a well-ventilated area.
Use eye and skin protection when splashes can occur. Substitute ethanol or methylated spirits as alternative to methanol used as a solvent.
