All nitrates are toxic if ingested.
Since all metal nitrates are soluble, heavy metal nitrates have greater toxicity. Large ingested doses can have fatal effects.
Nitrates are powerful oxidising agents and may explode when mixed strong reducing agents, combustible materials or organic compounds. When heated or shocked nitrates may explode. When heated to decomposition, toxic nitrogen dioxide gas is produced.

Disposal:Nitrate solutions (not containing heavy metals) may be directly discharged to the sewer. Ensure the solution pH is 8-10.(Also see Appendix E).
