Toxic if ingested. Stains skin black; corrosive to skin and eyes.
Use eye and skin protection when splashes can occur.

Forms explosive mixtures with combustible materials (such as sulfur, phosphorus, ethanol and metal powders) and with organic compounds.
Can be used in redox reactions, including metal displacement reactions, for preparation of Tollens Reagent and testing for chloride ions. Solution prepared by dissolving 10 g silver nitrate in 100 mL distilled water.
Store in dark coloured dropping bottle in a dark place.

Note: Silver nitrate stains skin and permanently stains clothing.
