Copper chrome arsenate (CCA) as the chemical is highly toxic. The arsenic in treated timber is considered to be non-toxic and readily excreted. Toxic doses from the wood would require the ingestion of 15-20 cm3 of treated timber. If CCA timber is burnt, arsenic is released as a vapour. Waste CCA timber must always be sent to landfill and never burnt. CCA timber must be used in accordance with the controls specified on the MSDS.
