Hazardous Chemical
III 1299
8006-64-2
Toxic by all routes of exposure. Highly flammable. Use in a fume cupboard if practicable, otherwise use small quantities in a well-ventilated area. Use eye and skin protection when splashes are possible. Usually, this term refers to mineral turpentine. The term can also refer to the natural turpentine extracted from certain trees; this material is as flammable, but less toxic, than mineral turpentine. Natural turpentine reacts violently with chlorine gas and explosively with chlorine compounds, (e.g. tin(IV) chloride) which yield chlorine on decomposition. Used as a solvent in paints.
